Bali Has the Highest COVID-19 Recovery Rate in Indonesia: Governor Koster

DENPASAR, Bali (BPN) – Bali Governor Wayan Koster announced nine new confirmed cases as of Monday, May 4, consisting of two Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI), and seven Local Transmissions, bringing the total confirmed patients in Bali to 271.

Besides, Koster also announced eight recoveries, bringing the total recoveries in Bali to 159.

Governor Koster explained three indicators that show tangible results related to COVID-19 handling in Bali.

One of them, the percentage of recovery of confirmed COVID-19 patients which reached 58.67 percent and became the highest in Indonesia.

In Bali, the average length of a confirmed patient’s treatment to recover is 13 days, the fastest treatment period is three days, and the longest is 39 days.

“Bali is ranked at the top of COVID-19 handling in the country with a recovery rate reaching 58 percent, compared to the national rate which is only 16 percent. Even other countries have a recovery rate of only 32 percent,” Governor Koster said, Monday.

The other indicator, the rate of daily additional confirmed cases that reached seven people, lower than DKI Jakarta, West Java, East Java, Central Java, South Sulawesi, and Banten.

The confirmed cases on the island, mostly came from PMI or cruise crew by 54 percent, local transmission 36 percent, from other provinces 7 percent, and foreigners three percent. Whereas confirmed cases in other provinces are mostly local transmissions.

The third indicator, the rate of death that reached 1.48 percent, far below the national (7.46 percent) and World average (7.04 percent).

The four deaths consisted of two foreigners, one person came from another region in Indonesia, and one person PMI.

“Even though Bali is not implementing the large-scale social restrictions (PSBB), by far the COVID-19 handling has shown better and controlled results,” Koster said.
