SANUR, Bali (BPN) – ARTOTEL Sanur Bali is once again collaborating with Rupa Bali through ARTSPACE to present a group art exhibition titled “Re-make: The Art of Befriending Trash.”
Running from October 30, 2026, to January 5, 2027, this exhibition showcases works by artists from Bali and Jakarta who explore the potential of discarded materials to create valuable art while conveying a message of sustainability.
The exhibition features works by I Made Putra Indrawan (Awan), Ni Wayan Penawati, siji, and a collaboration between Anastasia Audrey and Fahrid. With diverse artistic approaches and styles, the artists explore a range of materials, from egg cartons, plastic bottles, and fabric scraps to used bottle caps.
Awan presents the monumental sculpture Monolog, crafted from approximately 420 egg cartons, white glue, and used plastic bottles. Through this work, he invites visitors to reflect on life as they interact with the artwork.
Meanwhile, Ni Wayan Penawati transforms fabric scraps into works inspired by the lives and traditions of Balinese women, particularly the relationship between clothing, customs, and daily life.
Siji explores production waste, defective materials, and unused stock through installations and fashion pieces, highlighting the relationship between humans and consumption patterns.
On the other hand, Anastasia Audrey and Fahrid collaborate by using recycled plastic to create works themed around the environment and marine pollution.
Through visuals of the underwater world, the two artists invite visitors to reflect on the impact of plastic waste on nature and the future of coming generations.
Over the past decade, artistic practices that utilize recycled and reused materials have been growing in Indonesia.
Through this exhibition, visitors are invited to view trash from a different perspective—not merely as something to be discarded, but as material that can be repurposed into meaningful creative works.
Agus Ade Surya Wirawan, General Manager of ARTOTEL Sanur Bali, stated, “We are proud to present an exhibition that addresses sustainability issues through art. For us, art is not only a medium for self-expression but also a means to convey messages and raise awareness about environmental issues.”
Through ‘Re-make: The Art of Befriending Trash,’ we hope visitors will see materials often considered trash from a new perspective and understand that creativity can open opportunities to create something more meaningful and sustainable.”
