Yoga and Vegetarian Culinary Tourism Can Attract Indian Tourists

JAKARTA (Release/BPN) – Indonesia Tourism Minister Arief Yahya is confident that yoga and vegetarian culinary are the attractions to increase tourist arrivals from India to this year target as many as 700,000 Indian tourists.

“Specifically we do not have a yoga destination yet, but Bali as the most popular destination for Indian tourists has been a favorite destination to hold yoga festival,” Minister Arief Yahya said in a press conference Launch 4th International Yoga Day at Ministry of Tourism office, on Monday, April 30.

Minister Arief Yahya accompanied by Indian Ambassador to Indonesia Pradeep Kumar Rawat, explained that the culinary festival for vegan community is also one of the attractions.

“For our culinary tourism we just set Bali, Bandung, and Joglosemar (Yogyakarta, Solo, and Semarang), and other vegetarian culinary festivals also has attracted many Indian tourists,” Arief Yahya explained.

According to Arief Yahya, Indian tourists enter the Top 5 market in contributing the number of visits of foreign tourists. Indonesia this year is targeting 17 million foreign tourists by relying on two major markets, China and India.

Meanwhile Ambassador Pradeep Kumar Rawat explained that Yoga in addition to improving body and mind health also can support tourism activities. “Bali is the most popular destination for Indian community for yoga, also Prambanan Yogyakarta is also a favorite place for yoga festival,” Pradeep Kumar Rawat said.
