JAKARTA (Release/BPN) – The ministry of Tourism of Indonesia announced that Indonesia will take part in celebrating the fourth International Yoga Day on June 21, by holding Mass Yoga in 10 major cities across the country. Starting from Malang (April 22), Jakarta (April 28), Yogyakarta (May 5), Bandung (June 9), Bali (June 16 – 17), Surabaya (June 21), Jakarta (June 23), Medan, (June 24), Yogyakarta, Prambanan Temple (June 24), and Surabaya (August 10).
Themed “Ten Cities, Ten Days, Uniting Twenty Thousand Yoga Lovers, Promoting Health and Happiness Through Yoga”, the 2018 Yoga Festival will be guided by professional Yoga instructors from India.
According Tourism Minister Arief Yahya, Yoga Day celebration is important, because it can improve the relationship between Indonesia and India.
Arief also said Indian is a potential market for Indonesia tourism. Currently the number of Indian tourist to Indonesia is in the Top 5. “China, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, India and Japan. Last year, China ranks first with 1,9 million foreign tourists, while India as many as 485,000 tourists, even though last year direct flight from India to Indonesia did not exist,” the Minister said on Monday, April 30.
Minister Arief Yahya explained, this relationship is closer now with the opening of direct flight from Mumbai to Indonesia on April 23, 2018.
“2019 will be a special year since marking the 70 years of a good bilateral relationship (Indonesia and India). The Yoga Festival has the important role in improving the relationship between the two countries,” Minister Arief Yahya added.
