JAKARTA (BPN) – As many as 1.2 million Covid-19 vaccines made by Sinovac arrived in Indonesia from Beijing, China, on Sunday night, December 6, 2020. The vaccine has been clinically tested in Bandung since last August. The number will continue to increase in line with the need for handling the pandemic in Indonesia.
“Today the government has received 1.2 million doses of the vaccine to prevent Covid-19. This vaccine is made by Sinovac which has been tested clinically in Bandung since last August, “said President Joko Widodo on Sunday.
The government is also working on another 1.8 million doses of vaccines to be imported by early January 2021. Besides, the government will also bring in raw material for 15 million doses by this month and 30 million doses next January, which will be processed by Bio Farma as the state-owned vaccine producer.
“We are very grateful, thank God, the vaccine is available. This means that we can prevent the Covid-19 outbreak from spreading. However, to start vaccination still requires steps from the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM),” the President said.
President Jokowi emphasized that all scientific procedures in preparation for vaccination must be passed properly to ensure public health and safety and to increase the effectiveness of the vaccine. Later, scientific considerations and the final results of clinical trials will determine when the vaccination can be carried out.
In addition, the President reminded his officials about the preparation for the distribution of these vaccines to the regions. Supporting matters such as equipment, human resources, and vaccination management are very important to be prepared immediately.
However, the geographical condition of Indonesia which is so large makes it impossible for the government to vaccinate simultaneously. To that end, the President invited all parties to continue to monitor and follow the instructions and information that the government will provide.
“Even though vaccines already exist, we still have to be disciplined in implementing health protocols. Stay disciplined in wearing a mask, keep your distance, and wash your hands. May God Almighty bless us to be able to pass the epidemic,” he said.
Upon arrival at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, the Covid-19 Vaccine was immediately taken to the Bio Farma Head Office in Bandung. The vaccine has previously been packaged using special storage in the form of an Envirotainer to maintain the quality of the vaccine.
The vaccine was then transferred from the Envirotainer and stored in a cool room with a temperature of 2-8 degrees Celsius. The room has been sterilized and specially prepared to store the vaccine.
Furthermore, teams from the BPOM and Bio Farma will take the sample of the vaccine for quality testing.
“After obtaining permission from BPOM, then we will do the vaccination. Scientific principles must be followed. The people’s safety and security must be in the first place,” said the President.
