UBUD, Bali (BPN) – The most worth-waiting international Ubud Village Jazz Festival (UVJF) is entering its 10th consecutive year of jazz celebration this year. The UVJF 2023 will be held at a new location, Sthala Ubud Portfolio Hotel by Marriot, on July 28 and 29.
“We’ve been holding the festival in ARMA for nine years, and the number of attendees has steadily grown, with no sign of slowing down. We want to keep the festival cozy and comfortable for our spectators, and keep surprising them with new experiences,” said Yuri Mahatma, the festival co-founder.
“We have finally decided to have our event at STHALA Ubud Portfolio Hotel by Marriot. The hotel’s stunning open-air space is the perfect setting for our event. We are looking forward to celebrating in this beautiful scenery.”
Yuri also hopes that the festival will lift the creativity of local jazz musicians so that UVJF can be the network for them to go international
Klik Swantara, the festival architect, will use his wizardry of creativity to create a dreamlike ambiance, incorporating, as always, space for local culinary businesses as well as small companies from the creative sectors, in order to add to the overall experience of the event.
“We wish to attract not only jazz enthusiasts but also a wider range of demographic,” Klik mentioned.
Other upgrades on the festival’s location, according to Ni Putu Diana Surya, UVJF Artistic division, that the resort’s spacious and beautiful garden and the fact it is located on the riverside will make the festival’s ‘village’ vibes stronger, in addition to the spacious parking lot.
With all the upgrades, Diana mentioned that the festival is now set to increase its visitor target to 1000 people. One thing Diana suggested especially for ladies: don’t use heels.
This 10th Year Celebration is marking a Come-Back-with-Full-Force, after the worldwide lockdown. A diverse and talented lineup of musicians from all around the world and the archipelago will come together for the two-day event, bringing on a journey of musical exploration and discovery.
Among them are the very well-known and respected Kevin Hays Trio (USA), along with Pere Bujosa Trio (Spain), Henk Kraajeveld Quintet (The Netherlands), MANNA Trio featuring Indonesian bass living legend Mates, Rio Moreno Latin Combo (Indonesia), Amanda Lee (Singapore), Wilson Quah (Malaysia-Indonesia), Jeremie Ternoy (France), Yuri Mahatma & Astrid Sulaiman (Indonesia), and the young and gifted pianist Nadine Adriana (Bandung), Etawa Jazz (Jogjakarta) and many more.
Lasta Arimbawa, General Manager of Sthala Ubud, said that this is not the first time the resort holds a partnership with UVJF since in the previous years, Sthala Ubud had hosted the festival’s pre-events.
“So we’ve seen how professional the (UVJF) committees are and we are so grateful that now we can host the full event,” said.
