Kemenparekraf Prepares Tourism Industry to Face Performance Projection Spike In 2021

JAKARTA (BPN) – Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy/ Tourism and Creative Economy Agency (Kemenparekraf) seeks to prepare the tourism industry to remain optimistic and prepare for the projected performance jump in 2021.

Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Wishnutama Kusbandio after a meeting that was led by President Joko Widodo with the topic of Mitigation of the Impact of COVID-19 to the Tourism Sector and Creative Economy from the Presidential Palace Jakarta, Thursday, stated that his ministry has reallocated their budget and implemented special programs during the COVID-19 emergency response period so that the tourism sector and the creative economy are mitigated during the pandemic.

“The President instructed that we conduct social protection programs for tourism players and Kemenparekraf budget reallocation of IDR 500 billion, this potential will continue to develop,” Wishnutama said as quoted from the ministry’s press release.

His ministry will coordinate with the Ministry of Finance intensively as an effort to be able to provide various assistance to the tourism sector and the creative economy.

“Our reallocation will also consist of various programs that are labor-intensive, and this will be carried out with further studies with the relevant ministries, including the economic stimulus for the tourism industry and the creative economy players to withstand throughout the current situation,” he said.

President Joko Widodo previously believed that the sluggishness of the tourism sector due to the coronavirus pandemic would only last until the end of the year.

For this reason, an attitude of optimism must continue to be built so that the tourism sector can take advantage of the rising momentum as soon as the downturn ends.

“I believe this is only until the end of the year. Next year, there will be a boom in tourism. Everyone will want to go out, and everyone will want to enjoy the beauty that is around the regions where there is tourism so that the optimism needs to be carried constantly. Do not let us be caught in pessimism because of COVID-19, so that when the boom emerges after COVID-19 is over, we are not able to take advantage of it,” he said.
