NUSA DUA, Bali (BPN) – BIMC Hospital Nusa Dua held a clinic gathering themed “Advances in Neuro Spinal Surgery: Saving Life and Limbs” on Friday (December 12, 2025).
The event was attended by dozens of participants representing healthcare clinics across South Bali and featured keynote speaker Dr. dr. Dewa Putu Wisnu Wardhana, Sp.BS(K), FINSS, FICS, a neurosurgeon and neurospine specialist at BIMC Hospital Nusa Dua.
Dr. Dewa emphasized the importance of continuously disseminating updates on neuro spinal care, as complaints related to spinal conditions among both local residents and tourists continue to rise.
“Spinal trauma or injuries are increasingly common due to accidents or extreme sports. Through this gathering, we aim to provide updated information and education on how to manage spinal injuries before patients are referred to a hospital,” he said.
According to Dr. Dewa, rapid and accurate initial management of spinal injuries at primary clinics is critical before referral, as spinal damage can be extremely difficult to repair once it occurs.
“At BIMC, we have nearly all the facilities required to treat spinal injuries, and patients are satisfied with our services. That is why we target clinics as the frontline, so they can handle nerve injuries quickly and avoid referring patients to facilities that are not equipped to manage such cases,” he explained.
He added that updated knowledge on spinal injury management is essential, particularly in terms of response speed, alignment in medication protocols, and effective communication within referral pathways to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Dr. Dewa also noted that the number of spinal injury cases treated is closely linked to Bali’s tourism trends, both during high season and peak season.
“For example, during peak season, there is a massive influx of visitors who seek alternative transportation such as renting motorcycles, which can lead to accidents. Factors include helmet use, lack of safety awareness, or fatigue,” he continued.
He confirmed that BIMC Hospital Nusa Dua currently has comprehensive facilities to manage spinal injury patients, including release of nerve compression, and fracture repair, supported by skilled medical professionals and advanced equipment.
“Now, the key is building trust—starting internally—on how we heal patients and ensure their comfort,” he said.
Through this clinic gathering, BIMC Hospital Nusa Dua also encouraged clinics to prioritize patient comfort, emphasizing that tourists should not experience additional trauma during treatment, referral, or even when being repatriated safely and comfortably to their home countries.
Dr. Dewa stressed that the initiative supports medical tourism in Bali, by creating impactful programs for clinics through continuous education and information sharing on how to manage patients quickly, safely, and comfortably.
“We want tourists to come to Bali happy, and to return home happy—and safe,” he concluded.
