KUTA, Bali (BPN) – After a long two-year pandemic-forced hiatus, Rip Curl GromSearch 2022 presented by Samudera Indonesia will be hosted as a single event competition for two days on 29th-30th of October 2022 at Halfway Kuta Beach, Bali.
Started as a one-day surfing event at Victoria’s Jan Juc beach in 1999, GromSearch has developed into a worldwide series of events designed specifically for the 16 years and under surfer, commonly termed ‘grommets’.
The series is designed to provide fun events for groms to enjoy themselves and meet the crew from around the country, whilst developing their competitive game.
To be eligible for the competition, you must be the specified age as of 31st December 2022.
All divisions are limited, with entry allocated on a first-in-first-served basis, and allow surfers from around the country to compete against their contemporaries in a fun and engaging environment.
“Finally after two years, we are excited to be kicking off the GromSearch 2022 event in partnership with Halfway Kuta Boardriders and presented by Samudera Indonesia. Halfway Kuta Beach has fairly consistent surf and clean groundswells prevail,” said Gamelia Carbery, Rip Curl Marketing Manager Indonesia.
“Rip Curl GromSearch has been the starting foundation for some of Indonesia’s most talented pros over the last 14 years and we can’t wait to unlock some new talents in 2022!” continued Gamelia.
The list of previous GromSearch finalists illustrates the significant history of the series, with World Surf League (WSL) competitors Men’s WSL athletes include: Gabriel Medina, Owen Wright, Italo Ferreira, Jordy Smith, Kolohe Andino, Filipe Toledo, Kanoa Igarashi, Ryan Callinan, Leonardo Fioravanti, Connor O’Leary & Morgan Cibilic.
Women’s WSL athletes – Tyler Wright, Carissa Moore, Steph Gilmore, Sally Fitgibbons, Malia Manuel, Nikki Van Dijk, Tatiana Weston-Webb, Bronte McCaulay, Caroline Marks, Macy Callaghan, Brisa Hennessy, Isabella Nichols & Bethany Hamilton.
Meanwhile, former Rip Curl GromSearch Indonesia finalists include Garut Widiarta, Ketut Agus, Ryuki Waida, and Taina Izquierdo.
