UBUD, Bali (BPN) – Sthala, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, Ubud Bali by Marriott International, received the prestigious ASEAN Green Hotel Award 2024 nomination.
Presented by Sandiaga Uno, the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia, on 13 March 2024, at Gedung Sapta Pesona in Jakarta, the nomination recognizes Sthala Ubud Bali’s unwavering commitment to sustainable practices and environmental responsibility.

The ASEAN Green Hotel Award, initiated by a collaboration between the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, the Indonesia Hotels and Restaurants Association (PHRI), and the Indonesia Congress and Convention Association (INCCA), acknowledges hotels and convention centers in Indonesia demonstrating exceptional leadership in sustainable tourism.
Sthala Ubud Bali goes beyond offering luxurious accommodations in the heart of Ubud’s captivating landscape. The hotel actively implements various green initiatives, inviting guests to participate and contribute to environmental preservation and local Balinese culture.
Some of the key sustainability efforts in place at Sthala Ubud Bali are Zero plastic usage in guestrooms and significantly reduced plastic use in Food and Beverage operations, waste management through organic waste composting and linen/towel reuse programs for water and energy conservation, eco-friendly amenities, recycled paper packaging, and partnerships with local vendors to ensure top quality and sustainability standards, upcycling unused linens into practical amenities.
And then Food waste management in partnership with Scholars of Sustenance (S.O.S) and on-site Chef’s Organic Gardens where guests can participate in cooking classes and harvest fresh produce, upcycling used cooking oil into eco-friendly candles, wastewater management to nourish hotel gardens.
Also, active participation in Bali river cleaning programs alongside Sungai Watch, replacing plastic water bottles with glass alternatives and offering organic welcome drinks featuring local ‘Teleng’ flowers, and Beyond Sustainability: Immersing Guests in Balinese Culture
The hotel offers a variety of local activities for guests to immerse themselves in Balinese culture, including Yoga by the riverside, Balinese purification and cleansing programs, making Balinese offerings, learning Balinese dance and music, cycling or trekking through villages, rice fields, and rivers, visiting art galleries or Balinese museums, and engaging in traditional crafts like egg painting and kite making
