SOS Indonesia Celebrates Independence Day with Children at Semara Putra Orphanage Klungkung

DENPASAR, Bali (BPN) Indonesia celebrates its 77th Independence Day on August 17, with a plethora of joyful events and ceremonies. Popular traditional games like eating crackers, local competitions, and cultural parades can all be seen.

This year Scholars of Sustenance (SOS) Indonesia celebrates Independence Day with children at Semara Putra orphanage in Klungkung, which is home to 35 children in total, including orphans, children with disabilities, and school dropouts, and victims of abuse.

In collaboration with IN2food Project, SOS Indonesia joined children from a variety of orphanages in Klungkung, including Semara Putra and LKSA K400 Baith_EL in celebrating Indonesia’s Independence Day with celebratory activities.

Students from local and international universities, including Universitas Katolik Parahyangan, Binus University, Universitas Prasetya Mulia, Universitas Pembangunan Jaya, Universitas Ma Chung, Hotelschool The Hague, Ghent University, and Tampere University, enjoyed lunch and snacks and played traditional games such as cracker eating with orphanage children as part of the IN2FOOD program Summer School Bali.

Prior to bringing the meals to the event at Semara Putra for the orphanage children, the university students had a group cooking session at the SOS office in Sanur.

IN2FOOD is INterdisciplinary approach towards fostering collaborative INnovation in FOOD Waste Management.

It is a capacity project to enhance the capability of Indonesian universities to deal with food waste issues in Indonesia through education and research promoting interdisciplinary and collaborative innovation.

Children from Semara Putra orphanage liven up the atmosphere by performing a beautiful song.

Sariani, the administrator of LKSA K400 Baith_EL, expressed gratitude to SOS for hosting this event. “Today we are all delighted celebrating Independence Day together and we love the cuisine,” she said.
