DENPASAR, Bali (BPN) – Students of Ilmu Komunikasi, FISIP of Udayana University will hold an event called “Ruang Makan” (dinning space) which is an effort to educate people to be wiser in food consumption. The event, in cooperation with Wisnu Foundation, will be held at Bokashi Farm, Denpasar, on Sunday, July 1.
“The goal is to educate the public to be wise in consuming food, eat as needed,” said Ni Putu Indriana Purwaningsih as Project Manager, at Warung Kubu Kopi, Denpasar on Friday.
According to Indriana, this education is very important because it is related to food security in Indonesia.
“According to data from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Indonesia is predicted to suffer food crisis in 2050. Through this event we want to invite people to be wiser in eating food by way of sufficient and not wasting it,” she explained.
In addition, Indriana continued, her side also held a survey related to people’s behavior in consuming food.
“From 443 respondents residing in Denpasar City and Badung Regency with the average age of correspondent between 13-35 years, as many as 54.6 percent claimed to have left the food unfinished on the plate,” Indriana explained.
This campaign has been conducted since April to May, and one of them is to invite the community to be aware of food waste and care for food and the environment.
The event that was held for the first time will involves many parties ranging from musicians, community to society. Indriana hoped this event can raise awareness in the community to get used to finish to eat their food and maintain the environment.
“Saving the earth can be started from the small things first, one of them is by not wasting food,” she closed.
