Sanur Village Festival 2024 Invites Sanur Communities for Turtle Hatchlings Release and Beach Cleanup

DENPASAR, Bali (BPN) – The third day of the 17th Sanur Village Festival (SVF) was filled with social and environmental programs, featuring a beach cleanup and the release of 100 baby sea turtles along the shores of Mertasari Beach, Sanur, Denpasar, on Friday (October 18, 2024).

The release of the 100 baby turtles, locally known as tukik, and the beach cleanup was followed by around 300 participants, including members from the Sanur Development Foundation (YPS), the Sanur Hospitality Forum (SHF), local community members, and students from elementary, middle, and high schools in the Sanur Kauh village.

Ida Bagus Gede Sidharta Putra, popularly known as Gusde Sidharta, the Chair of the Sanur Village Festival Committee and the head of the Sanur Development Foundation, expressed that the release of hatchlings and the beach cleanup demonstrate a genuine concern for environmental sustainability.

“We aim to build an ecosystem in Sanur involving the foundation, the Sanur Hospitality Forum, students, and the community in efforts to maintain environmental sustainability, one of which is through beach cleanups and releasing turtles back into their habitat,” he stated.

I Made Ada, the Head of Sanur Kauh Village, praised the Sanur Development Foundation and the festival committee for their commitment to environmental care. He encouraged the entire Sanur community to be pioneers and role models in preserving the environment.

He also urged business owners along Sanur Beach to help protect areas typically used by turtles for nesting.

Meanwhile, Gusti Agung Alit Kencana, the Bendesa (customary village chief) of Intaran, emphasized the importance of coexisting with nature, in line with the concept of Palemahan in the Tri Hita Karana philosophy, which focuses on maintaining a harmonious relationship with nature, exemplified by the turtle release and beach cleanup.

The Sanur Village Festival 2024 was officially opened by I Gusti Ayu Bintang Darmawati, the Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, alongside Gusde Sidharta on Wednesday (October 16, 2024).

The 17th Sanur Village Festival runs for five days, from October 16 to 20, 2024, under the theme “Asta Brateswarye,” which refers to the Eight Leadership Qualities that future leaders in Indonesia should embody, emphasizing the fundamental traits of leadership.
