KUTA, Bali (BPN) – Bali’s famous painter from the village of Batuan, Gianyar, Dewa Putu Arsania holds an exhibition, themed Batuan Spirit at Pullman Hotels and Resorts, Legian which began on Thursday and will last until April 2, 2019. As many as 50 paintings are exhibited with the classic characteristics of Batuan painting.

“Most of them based on epic stories to daily life. There are two types, namely black and white and colored,” Dewa Putu Arsania said.

Each theme of the painting also revolves around the stories of Ramayana, Mahabharata, Tantri, to the daily lives of people on traditional market.

According to Dewa Putu Arsania, to complete one work takes a long time and can even take up to three years, because accuracy, detail to the mood must be balanced.

According to him, the theme of ‘Batuan Spirit’ itself is related to his expectation to current generation who must continue the Batuan painting tradition. So, this exhibition is also meant to preserving the painting of Batuan so that it would not be forgotten.

The Batuan painting itself is one of the original Balinese painting heritage that has special characteristics. Batuan painting mostly focuses on gradations of color and curvature.
