DENPASAR, Bali (BPN) – Child activists in Bali declared war against pedophilia in Bali by signing a declaration of Clean Bali from Pedophile Perpetrator. The declaration was signed by dozens of activists, NGOs, legislative candidates, and others at Warung Kubu Kopi, Denpasar on Monday.
The declaration also began with an open discussion regarding child protection on pedophilia cases in Bali which presented speakers from LBH (Legal Aid Institute) Apik Bali, Manikaya Bali Foundation, Project Karma Indonesia Bali Foundation, legal experts, art observer, and Women and Children Protection Agency of Bali.
According to Luh Anggreni from LBH Apik Bali, the case of pedophilia is one of the cases that is very difficult to deal with. This is because, in the process, the victim usually does not feel like a victim because the perpetrator fulfills the victim’s needs materially. The perpetrators mostly are rich people.
Other reason, the victim refuses to confess because they feel ashamed.
“In handling pedophilia case, officers, assistants, and even the police have difficulty in finding victim and witness. Victims are embarrassed or even does not feel like a victim. Even though it is a sexual act that leads to pedophilia case,” she said.
She admitted, that there is actually quite a lot of pedophilia case in Bali and mostly involving foreigners from various countries. The victim was lured with money, phone, and wealth and so on.
For this reason, she requested that activists who handle similar cases should bag the victim and witness before the case is forwarded to the police.
In addition, according to her, a victim or witness cannot be forced. So the disclosure of the case must be done in a closed manner where the victim is convinced that there is protection towards their secrecy and will not be a victim of discrimination.
