DENPASAR, Bali (BPN) – Bali authority has confirmed internet access will be off for 24 hours during the celebration of Nyepi holy day on Thursday, March 7, 2019.

“The internet service will be shut down for 24 hours starting on Thursday, March 7, at 6 AM until 6 AM on the next day. I hope that the non-Hindus living in Bali can also respect this decision,” said Bali administration Spokesperson Gede Darmawa, on Monday.

Darmawa explained internet services still can be used on important places including hospital, police offices, military, National Search and Rescue Agency, Airports and others.

“Following up on this decision, internet providers are expected to notice this information to their customers and the community,” Darmawa added.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Bali Abdul Kadir Makaramah stated that the policy is a form of religious tolerance.

“We must respect and appreciate other religious holy days, the Hindu’ Nyepi and other religious holy days, and we are ready to support the policy,” Abdul Kadir explained.
