Government to Evaluate the Prohibition of Foreigners Entering Bali

NUSA DUA, Bali (BPN) – Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut B. Pandjaitan stated that the government will soon evaluate the prohibition of foreign nationals entering Indonesia.

“We are evaluating the regulation again because currently, we are trying to vaccinate 1.8 million people or close to 2 million up to next month. And from April to May we can add 1 million people so that in July we hope that herd immunity will be formed and then Bali will become a green zone,” Minister Luhut B. Pandjaitan said at the opening of Bali Investment Forum in Nusa Dua, Friday.

With herd immunity, Luhut hopes that Bali can immediately open up access for foreign tourists, and at the same time pushing the increase in domestic tourist visits.

Luhut also explained said that the government will also start reviewing the application for a 5-year visa for foreigners.

“We will implement this policy in the near future so that it can encourage the growth of the tourism sector, for example by having a work from Bali,” he said.

On the same occasion, Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) Dodi Budi Waluyo, said that BI sees that the economic prospects for the tourism sector will improve in 2021, simply because of the vaccination program.

Meanwhile, Bali Governor Wayan Koster hoped the central government’s support towards the vaccination program will be continued so Bali can reopen the international borders soon.

“We hope that by July 2021, the number of people being vaccinated will reach 2.5 million of 4.5 million Bali’s population, so that by that month we can receive foreign tourist visits,” Koster said.
