Electric Eel opens in Echo Beach

CANGGU, Bali (BPN) – Opening 7 July 2023, Electric Eel is a new neighborhood beach house restaurant and lounge with an irresistibly homey vintage vibe overlooking the surf at Echo Beach in Canggu, Bali.

For Electric Eel, the latest venue by Bali hospitality favourites Tai “Buddha” Graham and Adam McAsey, finding the right way to reference the past was key.

The design takes a nuanced approach, highlighting custom marble tables, amber corduroy couches, wood paneling, travertine stone touches, black and white stone chequered floor, artwork by Jakey Pedro, and an abundance of plants (including a hanging plant wall) for a subtle retro vibe.

“People are looking for something laid back, but polished and are finding it in pleasures from a simpler time, a golden age. We wanted to create a portal to the past, layering authentic references and furniture,” says Graham.

The vision also comes through the menu with an assortment of grandma cakes and baked goods from the counter baked fresh and daily. Classic breakfast staples include the Egg & Ham, with fried eggs, glazed ham leg, hashbrown, heirloom tomatoes, and sourdough; Ricotta pancakes with honeycomb butter and maple; and a Bacon and Egg butty like no other – taking morning recovery food to a new realm.

A dinner vibe comes alive through mains that feature a Chicken schnitzel with salted cabbage and jalapeno mayo; Steak Frites with grass-fed organic tenderloin, hand-cut fries, herb butter, and black peppercorn gravy; and a twist on the Prawn cocktail with pomelo and green goddess to name a few.

If that’s not enough, its favourite nostalgic desserts have had a remake including Knickerbocker Glory; Pavlova with lemon and passion fruit curd; and soft serve ice cream served on retro amber glass plates to transport you back in time.

At Electric Eel the drinks list is carefully curated to offer something for every taste and occasion. Start your day off right with a selection of fresh juices and smoothies or enjoy signature coffee creations.

Electric Eel is the product of Project: Black with co-founders Tai ‘Buddha’ Graham and Adam McAsey. The team has figured out how to draw in a crowd with good design, hearty food, and most importantly, a strong sense of community.

“We’ve both been in hospitality a long time, and there’s a social element that comes with that. Our diverse community knows they’re going to come to our venues for a good time. We want to create a welcoming energy that feels like home,” Co-founder Adam McAsey said.
