Denpasar (BPN) – East Timor to use Bali as an example for the country’s plan to develop its tourism sector for the coming 2030. Bali is also hoped to be the gateway for East Timor’s tourism. The plan was proposed by the Tourism Minister of East Timor Manuel Vong in a meeting with Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika in Denpasar, on Friday.

According to Manuel Vong, East Timor’s economy currently relies on three sectors namely oil, agriculture and tourism. But given that oil and agricultural land are limited resources, East Timor plans to develop its tourism sector.

“We have a strategic plan for 2018 to 2030 to make East Timor become a ‘new destination’ in Asia,” Vong said.

Vong explained that East Timor has tourism potencies such as religious tourism, culture and history, one of them is the Giri Natha temple that already renovated. In order to support the development, Vong said that the country’s is already working on the infrastructure, besides also developing the human resources, and by that will learn from Bali.
