Mertasari and Segara Ayu Beaches are Closed due to the Increasing COVID-19 Cases in Sanur

DENPASAR, Bali (BPN) – Customary Village of Intaran, Denpasar, decided to close the access to some beaches in Sanur under its authority. Head of Sanur Subdistrict I.B Raka Jisnu said that the closure of the access to beaches starts on Friday, May 1, 2020.

“The closure of the access will take effect starting on Friday, May 1, 2020, until an unspecified period,” he said, as quoted from Denpasar’s press release.

I.B Raka Jisnu added that closure is applied for the access to Mertasari Beach and Segara Ayu Beach which is under the authority of Intaran Customary Village

“However, there are exceptions for residents like fishermen, as long as they can show a pass or ID which is already registered online,” he said.

Pecalang (Balinese traditional guard) also will be involved to take care of the closure, besides also involving youth groups and community organizations.

Besides the closure of access to beaches, Intaran Customary Village also decided to apply selective isolation and restriction on people’s activity in the village, due to the increasing number of confirmed cases in the area.

The selective isolation decision also included in the village’s customary law. So any violations will be given penalty accordingly to the customary law.
