Bali Airport Records 71 Percent Jump in Passengers Movements Throughout 2023

MANGUPURA, Bali (BPN) – Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport recorded 21,451,411 passenger movements throughout 2023. This number increased by 71 percent compared to the previous year which reached 12,522,400 passengers.

In addition, there was a notable 56 percent increase in the number of aircraft served from 87,558 flights in 2022 to 136,503 flights in 2023.

Handy Heryudhitiawan, General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, stated that his side had anticipated the number of passengers served throughout 2023.

“The average daily passenger movement is 59,000 passengers or 72 percent better compared to 2022 of 34,300 passengers per day,” he said.

Furthermore, Handy disclosed that the post-pandemic traffic recovery rate reached 89 percent, compared to the 24,169,561 passengers in 2019.

He explained that in 2023 the proportion of international passengers was more dominant than domestic, at 54 percent.

“The total passengers in 2023 divided into 9,918,236 domestic passengers and 11,533,185 international passengers. The highest number occurred in July with 2.1 million passengers served. The school holidays were the main factor at that time,” he said.

During the 13-day Christmas and New Year holidays, Bali Airport served 872,954 passengers with 5,410 aircraft movements.
