SANUR, Bali (BPN) – The Indonesian Bartender Association (ABI) in Bali together with Captain Morgan held bartender mixologists contest for bartenders in a fun and unique way, on Monday, November 26. The competition included pairing of cocktail and hot or cold foods and themed Mixochef Mixologist Captain Competition, was followed by bartenders from various restaurants and bars in Bali and other regions in Indonesia.
According to Robhet Rebecca as Chairman of ABI, this competition was followed by 22 bartenders and they had to create the pairing along with chef from bars, restaurants or hotels where they worked and create good quality drinks.
“The purpose of the food and cocktails pairing is for the bartenders to create a better and healthier quality drinks,” he said at a press conference in Sanur on Monday.
Robhet explained, the competition was also quite challenging for the bartenders because they had to be creative with their own ingredients.
“The challenge for bartenders is that they have to use their own ingredients and experiment with their creativity to produce better drinks. Later their drinks is rated based on taste, timing, theme and presentation,” Robhet explained.
Furthermore, Robhet said the profession as bartender in Indonesia has the opportunity to grow larger along with the increasing number of foreigners visiting Indonesia either to travel or business, which makes bar culture in Indonesia also growing.
“Some bars in Indonesia, especially in Jakarta and Bali, are among the best bars in Asia. Those bars require creative bartenders who love to explore and make the experience of enjoying cocktails more enjoyable,” he said.
