SANUR, Bali (BPN) – Genting Berhad (GENT) held the groundbreaking ceremony for its first stem cell facility, Fontaine Vitale, located in the Sanur Special Economic Zone (KEK) on Wednesday (November 20, 2024).

Fontaine Vitale will serve both local and international patients seeking advanced healthcare solutions.

The facility will leverage on GENT’s strategic partnership with Celularity Inc, a regenerative medicine company developing placental-derived allogeneic cell therapies and advanced biomaterial products, to bring Celularity’s experience and proprietary technology in cellular and regenerative medicine, and Celularity’s products to the facility.

The development of the four-story facility will take place in two phases.

In the first phase, a stem cell clinic will be established, offering advanced cell therapies focused on health, aesthetics, and regenerative medicine using stem cells derived from placentas produced by Celularity at its U.S. facility.

In the second phase, a manufacturing facility will be set up, where all the necessary cells will be produced under Celularity’s license and supervision, to be used at the clinic or supplied to other hospitals and clinics.

Fontaine Vitale will also showcase diagnostic products developed by companies in GENT’s portfolio, including enhanced imaging solutions powered by AI to improve disease prediction and diagnosis, as well as tools for early diagnosis and monitoring of disease progression in dementia.

Dato’ Sri Tan Kong Han, President, Chief Operating Officer, and Executive Director of GENT, stated that the stem cell clinic, the core of Fontaine Vitale, is expected to commence commercial operations towards the end of 2026.

“This clinic will be the first in ASEAN to offer placenta-derived allogeneic stem cell therapy, focusing on well-being, aesthetics and regenerative medicine. The stem cells will be manufactured in an FDA-approved cGMP facility, ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety,” he said.

Dato’ Sri Tan Kong Han added that this project reflects Genting Group’s commitment to pioneering innovative healthcare solutions and meeting the growing demand for advanced medical care in the region.

“We believe this facility will not only enhance the healthcare landscape in ASEAN but also position Bali as a major medical tourism hub, attracting patients from around the world seeking cutting-edge regenerative therapies,” he continued.

Herdy Harman, Director of Human Resources and Digital InJourney, explained that the Sanur Health KEK is being developed as a World-Class Medical and Wellness Destination, integrating healthcare and tourism facilities to international standards.

“This area is expected to become a landmark that accelerates Indonesia’s economic growth, especially in Bali, partly through an International Medical Facility, and as a transformative strategic step to address the growing number of Indonesians who seek medical treatment abroad,” Herdy added.

Initiated by the government as the first special economic zone for medical tourism in Indonesia, the Sanur KEK aims to develop a comprehensive health and wellness ecosystem, featuring state-of-the-art medical facilities, specialized clinics, wellness centers, research institutions, and supporting infrastructure to attract local and international patients seeking high-quality healthcare in a serene and rejuvenating environment.
