BANGLI, Bali (BPN) – A community service activity was recently held in Subak Uma Jero, Taman Village, located in Bangli Regency, Bali, aimed to empower the local farming community by providing them with sustainable agricultural practices.
The event was attended by several key figures, including the Head of the Subdistrict, the Village Secretary, the Perbekel (village head), agricultural extension workers, and members of Subak Uma Jero.
One of the main activities was an educational session on composting techniques.
The session focused on utilizing locally available materials to create compost, thereby reducing waste and promoting environmentally friendly farming practices.
An innovative approach was also introduced to address the persistent issue of rat infestations in the village.
The participants were taught how to incorporate rats, a common pest in the area, into the composting process.
This method not only helps in controlling the pest population but also contributes to producing nutrient-rich compost for the fields.
Dewa Gede Adiputra, the Head of Subak Uma Jero, expressed his hope that this activity would have a positive impact on Subak members and help solve some of the pressing issues faced by the farmers of Subak Uma Jero.
“We hope this initiative will provide practical solutions for our farmers and contribute to improving our agricultural practices,” he said.
Sang Made Agus Dwipayana, SSTP, the Head of the Subdistrict, also shared his thoughts, emphasizing the importance of the agricultural sector.
“Agriculture is a vital sector, and I grew up close to it. I am very pleased with this community service activity from Universitas Mahasaraswati Denpasar,” he said.
He further extended his gratitude to the team led by Dr. Dra. I Gusti Ayu Diah Yuniti, M.Si., along with members Luh Putu Yuni Widyastuti, S.P., M.Si., and Dr. Ni Luh Widyasari, S.Si., M.Si., for their contribution to the community.
The involvement of local leaders and agricultural experts highlighted the importance of sustainable farming practices and community collaboration.
This initiative is expected to improve soil fertility, reduce dependency on chemical fertilizers, and help manage pest problems in an eco-friendly manner.
Overall, the community service activity in Subak Uma Jero was a successful step towards enhancing agricultural productivity and sustainability in Taman Village.
