UHA 20th Anniversary: Brings Unity, Progress, and Impact to Bali Tourism

UBUD, Bali (BPN) – The Ubud Hotels Association (UHA) celebrated its 20th anniversary with the theme “Unity, Progress, and Impact.” The celebration took place at The Jungle Club Ubud on Friday, December 6, 2024.

UHA Chairman Putu Surya Arysoma said that the theme was not just for the 20th anniversary of UHA but also a guiding principle during his leadership of the organization.

“This theme is chosen with the hope that UHA can foster unity, make progress, and have a positive impact on its members and those outside of UHA,” he said.

Surya mentioned that UHA currently has 122 members and is under the umbrella of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI). He expressed hope that the government would grant UHA more role in influencing decisions in the tourism sector.

“There have been many inputs from UHA members for the transportation agency. One example is the widening of every intersection, such as at the corner near the Pengosekan gas station, which can be purchased by the local government. With this widening, left turns can continue smoothly. That was the feedback from members to help ease traffic congestion,” he explained.

Surya aims for UHA to host more activities next year based on its four pillars: human resources, sales and marketing, sports and culture, and government and public relations.

As for this year, activities to support the tourism sector are carried out in various ways. From a human resources perspective, training sessions on psychology are conducted for HR departments to understand team dynamics.

Additionally, competitions such as badminton, cooking, and latte art were organized.

Regarding Bali’s tourism, and specifically Ubud, Surya hopes the government can impose restrictions on new accommodation developments, including reinstating the policy of “neighbourhood” permit.

“I hope that in 2025, the permit can be reinstated. This would allow local village leaders to have a role when hotels, restaurants, or clubs are being built in their areas,” he elaborated.

As UHA looks ahead, the event underscores its commitment to fostering collaboration, sustainable tourism, and innovation to benefit the hospitality industry and the Ubud community.

“This is a moment to celebrate our accomplishments and the relationships we’ve built along the way. I hope that UHA continues to unite and progress into 2025, consistently creating a positive impact for its members, partners, sponsors, and other organizations with shared interests. Together, we have contributed to the growth of Ubud as a globally renowned destination,” said Putu Surya Arysoma.
