JAKARTA (BPN) – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo asked his staff to anticipate the increase in rainfall in Indonesia due to the La Nina climate anomaly. The data shows that La Nina can cause an increase in the accumulated monthly rainfall in Indonesia by 20 to 40 percent above normal.
“The BMKG (the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency) stated that the La Nina phenomenon is predicted to cause an increase in the accumulated amount of monthly rainfall in Indonesia which will increase by 20-40 percent above normal,” said the President in Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday.
President Jokowi instructed his staff to immediately calculate the potential impact on a number of sectors such as agriculture, fisheries, and transportation.
Jokowi also requested that information regarding the weather be continuously delivered to all provinces as soon as possible.
Thus, regional governments can prepare preventive measures to anticipate things that trigger hydro-meteorological disasters such as floods and landslides.
“The information about weather developments should be disseminated as quickly as possible to all provinces and regions so that they know everything on the increasing rainfall,” he said.
