JAKARTA (BPN) – After successfully hosted the Asian Games and Asian Para Games in 2018, Indonesia is now aiming to host the 2032 Olympic. President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has ordered his staff to prepare a plan for the bidding.

“To host the 2032 Olympics, we have to compete with Australia, Germany, Korean Unification, Qatar, China, and India,” the President said in a limited meeting on Wednesday, November 4, 2020.

President Jokowi explained that hosting the Olympic is not for a showoff, but rather a way to improve the image and dignity of the nation.

Thus, the president instructed his Cabinet to improve various things that have been lacking, starting from preparing sports infrastructure, then those related to athletes’ achievements, increasing global visibility as an organizing city, and so on.

President said that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has set new, simpler, and more cost-effective norms for hosting the Olympic.

“It seems that the new Olympic philosophy is no longer to show luxury, but the extent to which creativity, innovation can be carried out in implementing new norms which are expected to be more cost-effective and simpler,” he said.

Therefore, the President requested that the roadmap for Indonesia’s bid to host the 2032 Olympic be well prepared and based on the timeline set by the IOC.

“The host will be decided in 2024 and the selection process will start no later than 2023. That’s why the road map needs to be prepared,” President Jokowi said.
