NUSA DUA, Bali (BPN) – Indonesia along with Thailand to bid for the host of the 2034 World Cup. The plan for the two countries with the biggest football fanaticism in Southeast Asia (ASEAN) has also been supported by the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) at the AFF 12th Council Meeting Session 2015/2019 in NusaDua.
“We are thankful for the Indonesian government’s firm support and we think this is a great step for football in the ASEAN region. This is the time we step forward and hold a great event like the 2034 World Cup,” AFF Secretary General Dato Sri Azzudin Ahmad said on Saturday (23/09/2017).
The nomination of ASEAN as the host of the 2034 World Cup has become one of the important issues in this AFF Council Meeting.
This discussion is a continuation of the AFF Council Meeting on 6-7 July 2017 in Vietnam which decided PSSI (Indonesia Football Federation) was accepted as the leader of the ASEAN consortium in preparation for the 2034 World Cup host bidding.
Following the results of the meeting in Vietnam, PSSI then requested the approval of the Indonesian government who then gave a very positive response by providing support to the PSSI.
This government support is contained in the Letter of the Secretary of the State of the Republic of Indonesia signed by Pratikno on September 22, 2017.
While related to preparations for the nomination of Indonesia and Thailand as co-host, Dato Sri Azzudin explained that the planning is still being prepared.
“Strong football fanbase in Indonesia and other Southeast Asian countries will be a great magnet for the bidding. I hope ASEAN’s football will shock the world with the preparation of the upcoming World Cup,” he stated.
The bidding will be held by the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) six years before the World Cup.
