UBUD, Bali (BPN) – The first day of Festival Tepi Sawah attracted public attention when Putu Adhyaksa Narendra Krishna or Narend the little puppeteer showed an amazing Balinese shadow puppet performance at the festival held in Pejeng, Ubud, Gianyar.
In front of dozens of festival visitors, Narend who still 7 years old, presented the story of Palguna Wana Kerthi, which means maintaining and preserving the environment.
“I am a little bit nervous, since the preparation only a week,” Narend said on Saturday.
According to his father, Putu Agus Krishna, his son has been interested in Balinese shadow puppet arts since he was 1.5 years old.
“At that time he asked for a puppet and I noticed that he immediately understood and connected with the puppet and the story,” Putu Agus Krishna said accompanied by Narend’s mother Dani Melisa.
Putu Agus Krishna explained, Narend keeps practicing the shadow puppets even though not routinely done and every invitation also will be reviewed and will be asked to Narend first.
“I once accepted every invitation to perform, but Narend did not want to and the results were not optimal,” he said.
Furthermore, he said, as a parent, he will keep supporting Narend as long as it is a positive thing.
