SANUR, Bali (BPN) – A painting exhibition of Balinese and Chinese artists entitled “Patience is Earth” will be held at Sudakara Art Space, Sudalama Suites & Villas Sanur from December 19, 2018 to February 6, 2019. Presenting the artworks from 14 Balinese painters from Kertas Padi community and two Chinese painters, the event is also to welcome Galungan, Kuningan, Christmas, New Year and Chinese New Year.

According to the Leader of Kertas Padi Made Kaek, the paintings are made on rice paper and most of the painters who used to paint on canvas, were challenged to make new artworks to develop their talent and ideas on rice paper.

“We use rice paper which this kind of paper has been used for thousands of years for arts in China, while at the same time applying the style of each Balinese painter,” he said.

According to Kaek, almost all of the artists from Bali involved in this exhibition, are working for the first time on a rice paper with Chinese watercolor and ink. Each presents its own sensation.

Kaek said his community was so pleased when the Chinese Consul General Gou Haodong, brought in two famous rice paper artists from China.

“This momentum is very important as a continuation of social interaction and cultural diplomacy that has been fostered for hundreds of years by our ancestors in Bali with the Chinese,” Kaek said.
