The 2nd International Unconference “Consulting Without Borders: Sustainable Development” in Sanur, Bali.

SANUR, Bali (BPN) – The Gabriel Al-Salem Foundation (USA) and Business & Export Development Organization (BEDO – Bali) are holding the 2nd International Unconference for consulting professionals and entrepreneurs in Sanur, Bali, on February 1-2. The event participants are international and local management consultants, experts on sustainability, entrepreneurs, and government representatives, non-profit and professional organizations.

The Unconference features open space discussions led by experts based on the themes how consultants and entrepreneurs can foster development by focusing on sustainability; how sustainability issues impact international trade, redefine export and promote circular economy; the value of sustainability approach for social reform and poverty reduction; and Ecology vs. Economy – the sustainability challenge.

Gabriel Al-Salem Foundation (USA) is a non-profit organization with the purpose to build connections, promote Excellency and create sustainable growth in transitional and emerging market countries.

The Foundation commemorates the remarkable life of the late Gabriel Al-Salem (USA), who worked as Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development’s Business Advisory Program in Central Asia and made ​​an enormous contribution to the development of the consulting industry in the Central Asian and other regions. 

After his tragic death in 2010, the International Council of Management Consulting Institutes (ICMCI) recognized Gabriel’s pioneering work and granted him the honorary title of “Member of the Meridian Order.”  

Business & Export Development Organization (BEDO) enables sustainable economic growth for Indonesian SMEs and entrepreneurs with social and environmental responsibility in mind.

The Gabriel Al-Salem Foundation started the annual International Conference “Consulting without Borders” and the Award for Excellence in Consulting in 2012 with the purpose to motivate business consultants to accomplish high quality and result-oriented work for their clients.  

Each conference has a unique theme and focuses on the specific needs of consultants and businesses in a country or region where it is held. The events have attracted over 800 consultants, entrepreneurs and other participants from over 30 countries. 

In 2018 the Foundation redesigned the conference to be aligned with the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a multi-country initiative committed to ending poverty, protecting the planet and ensuring prosperity for all.

The new event is called “Unconference” because it prioritizes discussions to eyes-forward presentations and allows the participants to interact in a simple, productive way to create valuable dialogs that addressed their most important issues.
