KUTA, Bali (BPN) – A foreign national from South Africa committed suicide at a guest house in North Kuta, Badung. Hutton Gavil Walter, 31, was found hanged in his room by his ex-girlfriend on Wednesday, 7 April 2021.

North Kuta Police Chief, Commissioner Marzel Doni, explained that on Wednesday at around 5.20 AM the victim’s ex-girlfriend, Bodene Cruickshank, 31, also South African and lives next to the victim’s room, was about to leave for the beach for a photoshoot.

Before leaving, she wanted to tell the victim about it. But there was no answer when she knocked on the victim’s door. Bodene then opened the door and was shocked to see the victim hanged on a coffee wood pole which was used as a bedroom accessory.

She immediately shouted for I Made Armawan, 44, the owner of the Guest House. They then untied the scarf from the victim’s neck, but the victim was already dead.

“It is suspected that it was due to depression while living in Bali, because the victim once talked to his ex-girlfriend, but did not mention the problem he was experiencing,” Chief Doni.

The police suspected that his personal problems caused the victim to end his life. Chief Doni explained that the Badung Disaster Mitigation Agency’s (BPBD) ambulance arrived at the scene and took the victim to Sanglah Hospital for further examination.
