DENPASAR, Bali (BPN) – Scholars of Sustenance (SOS) Indonesia is scheduled to hold a fundraising event called “Million Meals March” (MMM). This year’s agenda is the third season of the successful MMM in 2021 and 2022.
The purpose of this initiative remains the same–to provide nutritious food to vulnerable societies in Bali and other places in Indonesia.
This year’s MMM gives two optional distances for the marchers–15km for the athlete and those who like to challenge themselves, and 5km is the perfect choice for families and those who enjoy a leisurely walk with a view of Tabanan’s scenic beauty.
Marchers will start the race from Puri Anyar (the Palace) of Kerambitan in the morning. They will go through the villages, down to the dense jungles, through the Yeh Ho river, across the cascading rice fields, and finally to Beraban beach where after-March BBQ, award presentation, raffle prizes to win, and the beautiful ocean view await them.
There are two categories to win this race: the most fundraised, and the fastest on each track.
More than a running event, this fundraising agenda also introduces the participants to the culture and heritage in Tabanan as well as to get to know the local society and Balinese tradition.
“There are many benefits from this march,” Ratna Soebrata, the General Manager of Scholars of Sustenance Indonesia.
“For athlete runners or those who like running, this is your time to shine! And also a perfect opportunity to learn Bali’s rich tradition and culture–especially the Puri Anyar of Kerambitan or enjoy Tabanan’s beautiful nature. All for the same purpose, to give back to the land and the people of Bali,” she added.
Bali is one of the World’s most popular destinations that offers the beauty of nature, Hinduism temples and relics, and strong cultural values.
Many locals depend on their lives in the tourism sector. However, COVID-19 gave significant impacts on the socioeconomic condition of the island which triggered the rising of unemployed people and communities at poverty risk.
“Bali is a beautiful island that relies on tourism. During COVID-19, Bali was weak and everyone was having a hard time. SOS has served over 3 million nutritious meals to communities in need around Bali,” Bo H. Holmgreen, the Founder and CEO of Scholars of Sustenance explained.
“Now that the pandemic is over, Bali is in a slow recovery and still needs our help. Through Million Meals March, we can all work together and provide more food for the vulnerable communities in Bali and other places because we aim to expand our impact in Indonesia,” The Danish national ended.
Runners, community, and generous people in Bali can join the Million Meals March. However, the organization also allows international runners to participate in their own homes.
Anyone who is interested is able to access the official website (https://www.scholarsofsustenance.org/mmm2023) to register.
All the funds raised will be used to distribute food to vulnerable societies in Bali and other needy areas.
