DENPASAR, Bali (BPN) – Series of discussions about the UK band “The KLF” was held at Rumah Tanjung Bungkak (RTB), Denpasar, on Tuesday (23 July 2024), with the event themed “Mumuland Up Close.”
The event also screened the short film “Who Killed KLF”, taking the audience on an in-depth journey into the history and legacy of Mumuland, The KLF, and the KLFRS Bali Team all known for their controversial media stunts and chaos magic philosophy.
The event served as a pre-event for the grand theatrical spectacle to take place at RTB on August 23, 2024.
“I used to watch KLF’s music in the 90s. I really appreciate the efforts to develop KLF’s spirit in Bali,” said Anom Darsana, event organizer of the festival.
Anom explained that the festival to showcase a unique and inspiring experience featuring various elements of art, fire and music that revive the legendary legacy of The KLF, the UK’s #1 band in the 90s with over 6 million record sales.
Mumuland evokes the spirit of Ancient Sundaland, described by some archeologists as the true location of the legendary lost continent of Mu.
Mumuland will be a festival like no other seen before in Bali, with over 23 different activities to appeal to all audiences.
Mumuland is in fact 4 Festivals in one, including Body Space with entertainment, art and dance workshops all day including Horse Riding, Archery, a Treasure Hunt, Disco Football and the chance to perform on the main stage.
Second is Energy Space where Mumuland will also pay tribute to the Balinese values of WALA, BEBALI and BALI BALIHAN with groups arriving from remote villages all over Bali to perform, many of whom have never been to Denpasar before.
Then there will be Heart Space with blessings from Balinese priests and a beautiful Sound Healing session from Agustian of Yoga Barn, Ubud.
Last is Rave Space, where Mumuland will be transformed into a replica of an early 1990’s Rave Warehouse with a great line-up of DJs, Rap, Death Metal, a Drag Queen, GoGo dancers and more.
The Mumuland Festival will be livestreamed globally with drop in performances from KLFRS UK, KLFRS France, KLFRS Sweden and KLFRS Papua, making it a truly international event.
The event will be a chaotic mix of theatre, film, fire and classic EDM and will mark the launch of the K-Line – Mumuland’s Bali-wide Treasure Hunt.
The KLF, or The Justified Ancients of Mu Mu, are art icons who have left a profound mark on the world of music and visual art.
Through “Mumuland Up Close,” participants can immerse themselves in the mysterious and creative chaos crafted by The KLF, and understand how their bold and controversial actions have influenced contemporary art both in Bali and globally.
This event is a rare opportunity to enjoy an evening filled with entertainment and inspiration at Rumah Tanjung Bungkak.
Entrance is free for all artists and musicians, but the event will be asking people to make donations to support its production crew of over 60 Indonesian artists, mostly from remote villages.
Mumuland is a non-commercial, non-profit organisation and all excess monies collected will be distributed equally amongst all of the artists involved.
