Bali Governor Denies Rejecting KM Splendor from Australia to Dock at Benoa Port

DENPASAR, Bali (BPN) – Bali Governor Wayan Koster denied has rejected the Carnival Splendor Motor Boat (KM) that brought Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) to dock at Benoa Port, Bali.

“It is not true that the Bali Provincial Government refused the arrival of the ship,” said Governor Koster during a teleconference with the Bali Police Chief, Regional Military Commander IX/Udayana, and Bali Prosecutor’s Office, in Denpasar, Saturday.

Previously, it was reported that KM Carnival Splendor carrying 327 Indonesian migrant workers departed from Australia failed to dock at the Benoa Port.

Hundreds of passengers, 188 of whom are Balinese, were then stranded in Karangasem waters, East Bali.

The ship was initially left for Batam but was refused by the local port authority. Finally, on Sunday (April 19), the ship was allowed to Bali.

Suddenly, after arriving at Lombok Waters on Thursday (April 23) at 11 AM, the ship was refused to arrive in Bali for no apparent reason.

According to the governor, the ship did not dock at Benoa Port for several reasons. First, because there was indeed no permit from the central government, given that the port is not under Bali authority.

Second, according to the decision of the Indonesia COVID-19 task force, all ships should dock at Tanjung Priok port, Jakarta.

According to Koster, the ship has arrived at Tanjung Priok and will be followed up accordingly to COVID-19 handling procedures, which all crews will take a rapid test and quarantine process.
