Australia’s Consul-General Shows Support for Bali’s Efforts To Promote Respectful Tourist Behaviour

DENPASAR, Bali (BPN) – Australia’s Consul-General in Bali, Jo Stevens, met with the Governor of Bali, Dr. Ir. Wayan Koster M.M., on Thursday (May 8, 2025) to discuss Australia’s important relationship with Bali.

The Consul-General highlighted Australia and Bali’s longstanding cooperation through close education, tourism and cultural ties, the development partnership program, and deepening economic engagement.

“Australia and Indonesia share very close people-to-people ties, which are so clearly on display in Bali. As a top overseas travel destination for Australians and with a large Australian community here, Bali holds a special place in our relationship with Indonesia,” said Consul-General Stevens.

The Governor and Consul-General also discussed the Australian Consulate-General’s ongoing support for Bali’s efforts to promote respectful tourist behaviour.

“We continue to work closely with the Bali Provincial Government to encourage foreign tourists to follow Bali’s local rules and regulations and to respect this beautiful island’s unique culture,” said Consul-General Stevens.

In 2024, there were over 1.5 million Australian arrivals into Bali. Of these, very few required consular assistance, showing that most Australians have an enjoyable, safe and trouble-free holiday in Bali, supporting the local culture and economy.
