DENPASAR, Bali (BPN) – The Australian Consulate-General in Bali is working closely with the Bali Provincial Government to encourage foreign tourists to respect Bali’s local culture, laws and regulations.
On 13 March, Australia’s Consul-General in Bali, Jo Stevens, and the Head of the Bali Tourism Office, Tjok Bagus Pemayun, met together to discuss Bali’s ‘do’s and don’ts’ guide for foreign tourists.
“This is a very clear and useful guide for visitors to this beautiful island. I encourage all Australians to respect Bali’s unique culture and follow the ‘do’s and don’ts’, for a safe and enjoyable visit”, said Consul-General Stevens.
“Australians love visiting Bali, where our strong people-to-people links are so clearly on display. In 2024, there were over 1.5 million Australian arrivals into Bali. Of these, very few required consular assistance. This shows that most Australians have a wonderful, safe and trouble-free holiday in Bali, supporting the local culture and economy – a trend we are keen to see continue,” she added.
Consul-General Stevens further outlined how the Australian Consulate-General in Bali was working closely with the Bali Government to promote respectful tourist behaviour, through social media campaigns and updated travel advice for Indonesia on Smartraveller, the Australian Government’s online travel advisory.
Australia’s travel advisory includes information on the Bali Provincial Government’s ‘do’s and don’ts’ for foreign tourists and warns Australians that offensive behaviour which fails to respect local culture, laws and regulations can lead to criminal penalties and/or deportation.
“I am delighted that the Australian Consulate-General in Bali is so supportive of the Bali Provincial Government’s efforts to encourage respectful tourist behaviour. Bali is like a second home for Australians, and we encourage all foreign tourists to respect Bali’s culture and laws, and protect the natural environment,” said Tjok Bagus Pemayun.
