Air Asia Launches New Direct Route from Penang to Bali

MANGUPURA, Bali (BPN) – Air Asia launched its first direct flight from Penang (Malaysia) to Bali, which landed at Bali Airport on Thursday (/10/20/2022).

In its inaugural flight, the Airbus A320 Air Asia flight number AK-1234 from Penang landed at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport – Bali at 10.19 AM, carrying 77 passengers, before flying back to Penang at 10.50 AM with 67 passengers.

“We congratulate Air Asia on the inaugural flight from Penang to Denpasar. With this additional route, the connectivity of Bali with Malaysia will also increase,” said Handy Heryudhitiawan, General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport.

Handy explained, overseas travelers departing from Malaysia are one of the biggest contributors to passenger traffic to Bali. In September there were 87,567 travelers departed from Kuala Lumpur to Bali Airport.

“In addition, foreign nationals from Malaysia are also one of the foreigners who visited Bali the most throughout 2022. In January – September 2022 period, there were 43,283 Malaysian who visited the island,” Handy added.

Currently, I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport – Bali serves 23 international routes and is served by 25 airlines.

“The highest traffic in September was the Australian routes, with 203,975 passengers. Followed by Singapore with 152,749 passengers, and Malaysia with 87,567 passengers. With the addition of the Penang – Denpasar – Penang route, we hope that the connectivity with Malaysia will be higher and international passenger traffic will also increase,” Handy said.
