Labuan Bajo Prepares Attractive Tourism Packages for the G20 Side Meetings

Labuan Bajo, NTT (BPN) – The G20 Meetings in Bali bring financial benefits to the surrounding regions. One of them is to Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), which will host 10 side meetings from May 2022 to November 2022.

According to Shana Fatina, President Director of Labuan Bajo Tourism Authority Agency (BPOLBF), the direct economic impact from the events is predicted to reach USD 3 million for Labuan Bajo and surrounding regencies.

“The calculation assumes that G20 participants have seven times the purchasing power of tourists in general. 10 side meetings with approximately 800 participants multiplied by USD 2000. This is still a rough calculation, not to mention if there are participants who want to extend their stay,” Shana Fatina said, during a media meeting in Labuan Bajo, NTT, on Thursday, February 10.

Several preparations are made, from the availability of hotel rooms, infrastructure, to tour packages to various tourist destinations in Labuan Bajo and the surrounding areas, since Labuan Bajo is the hub for other districts in Flores.

“We offer attractive tour packages so that the participants would stay longer. Besides, in some spots, we also provide a place for the community to offer their creative products. Tourist attractions are also will be held in a number of places, of course with strict health protocols,” Shana said.

Shana explained that her side understand that the pandemic is a big challenge. Therefore, the cooperation of various parties, including the community, will determine the success of this event.

“Strict health protocols are of course an obligation, besides that, a travel bubble will be implemented for mutual safety. We hope this pandemic will be decreasing so that people could get the benefits of these events, especially after the tourism slump due to the pandemic,” Shana said.

The 10 Side Meeting G20 in Labuan Bajo will start on May 2022 with Tourism Working Group, then on 27 June 2022: 2nd seminar/workshop ECSWG (Environment and Climate Sustainability), 28-29 June 2022: 2nd ECSWG meeting (Environment and Climate Sustainability), 20 July 2022: 3rd DETF Meeting (Digital Economy Task Force).
