Internet Service to Stay On during Bali’s Day of Silence

DENPASAR, Bali (BPN) – Bali Administration announced that the internet network will stay on during Nyepi (Day of Silence) on Sunday, March 14, 2021. Head of Communication, Information and Statistic Bali, Gede Pramana, said that only cellular data and Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) will be turned off for 24 hours.

Gede Pramana explained, cellular data and IPTV will be turned off for 24 hours, from March 14 at 6 AM to March 15 at 6 AM.

The Silent Day in Bali, Gede Pramana continued, is identical to the disconnection of internet access and television broadcasts so that the holy day can take place wisely and solemnly. However, because it is still in a pandemic condition, the internet can still be accessed.

“Internet at home, in hospitals and other important places, can still be accessed as usual. The internet data on phone will be turned off. Short message service and phone calls will operate normally,” said Gede Pramana.

The decision is a follow-up to the joint call of Bali religious councils. Three institutions, namely the Bali Chapter of Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPID), Bali Government, and the Bali Regional Council (DPRD) have also signed a memorandum of understanding regarding an appeal not to broadcast and/or to relay the broadcast during Nyepi.

The restriction is also applied to transportation service providers (land, sea, and air) which are not allowed to operate for 24 hours.
