Mountain Guide Encouraged to Improve Competencies for Facing New Normal Period

JAKARTA (BPN) – Mountain guides in Indonesia need to improve their competencies to face new challenges in the new normal period in nature tourism.

Director of Tourism Human Resources for the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy/Tourism and Creative Economy Agency Wisnu Bawa Tarunajaya said that the COVID-19 pandemic brings a fundamental change to the needs of tourists in the future, i.e. in prioritizing factors of cleanliness, health, and safety in traveling.

Moreover, it is estimated that later, there will be more tourists who choose nature activities such as hiking and other mountain activities.

“We cannot avoid the existence of COVID-19, but after this, tourism will definitely be booming. Primarily in nature-based activities, they will prefer more on sustainable tourism,” Wisnu Bawa Tarunajaya said when opening an online mountain guide and mountain guide’s instructor on Monday.

Therefore, he expected that the training attended by 150 participants will truly benefit and improve their competencies.

The government, especially the Ministry of Tourism is committed to continuing to facilitate the development of tourism human resources. Including continuing the program of this training by certifying mountain guides and instructors.

“Indonesia has a natural beauty and mountains, therefore it must be supported by excellent human resources,” he added.
