Bali Tourism Losses 9.7 Trillion per Month Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic

DENPASAR, Bali (BPN) – Deputy Governor of Bali Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardhana Sukawati or Cok Ace said that the COVID-19 pandemic has significantly affected the tourism sector in Bali,  especially to the majority of Balinese people who rely on tourism.

“Based on tourist’s length of stay Bali, the loss of Bali tourism in this pandemic is around IDR 9.7 trillion per month,” said Cok Ace during a dialogue in one of TV stations, in Denpasar, Wednesday.

Cok Ace still hoping that tourism actors avoid employment termination (PHK). But if it should be done, at least the company gives compensation to the employees.

According to Cok Ace, the authorities both regional and central, have made several efforts to help laid-off tourism employees such as distributing daily needs to them.

Cok Ace explained currently the COVID-19 cases in Bali start to flatten and the recovery rate has reached 67 percent. He hoped that with this is the good sign that Bali can soon be free from the COVID-19 pandemic.

“If the pandemic reaches zero cases by the end of May, then for the next six months the Government will make maximum efforts to recover the tourism sector, so that Bali tourism can rise again as before or even better,” he said.

During the pandemic, Cok Ace added, Bali Government is also on process to create a post-COVID-19 tourism scheme so that later it can be carried out properly.

Thus, Cok Ace invited people in Bali to continue to apply the discipline to stop the spread of Coronavirus.

“If there is good collaboration between the government and the community, this pandemic will undoubtedly be over soon,” he said.
