DENPASAR, Bali (BPN) – Bali Governor Wayan Koster confirmed six new cases of COVID-19 on the island as of Wednesday, April 8, 2020.
“There are six new cases all of them are Indonesians. In total there are 49 COVID-19 cases, with details of seven foreigners and 42 Indonesians. While the recovered patients reached 19 people. Four foreigners and 15 Indonesians,” he said on Wednesday.
According to Wayan Koster, of the six new cases, five of them are Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI).
Thus, the Bali Provincial Government has prepared quarantine sites with 1,012 beds, for these PMI and cruise crews.
These quarantine sites are located in Bali’s Community Health Training Center, Human Resource Training Center, Wisma Bima of Ministry of Public Work, and Politeknik of Land Transportation of Ministry of Transportation (as a backup).
Koster explained that the quarantine sites are the training facility for civil servants and structural official, which are completed with bedroom and Air Conditioner, and healthy foods.
“The positive cases of migrant workers are increasing, most of them work in the United States and Italy. However, they are our citizens who are accepted well as the Bali provincial Government responsibility,” Wayan Koster explained.
The total number of Balinese migrant workers or cruise crew is estimated to reach more than 20,000 people. Where 6,174 of them have been sent home as of March 29 to April 7, 2020.
“Our policy in Bali, they must be tested through a rapid test. Those who are negatives may go home but must follow self-quarantine with discipline and being supervised by the task force at the customary village. The villagers are advised to accept them and join to firmly supervise. While those who are positives must be quarantined at the place that has been provided by the Bali Provincial Government or carried out to referral hospital.
