Bali COVID-19 Task Force Hoping for No More Rejection on Quarantine Sites

DENPASAR, Bali (BPN) – Daily Chairman of Bali COVID-19 countermeasure acceleration task force Dewa Made Indra hoping that there will be no more rejection towards quarantine sites for migrant workers (PMI) arriving from overseas, on the island.

“We understand that the rejection occurred because people are afraid, aware, but lack of understanding on this virus spread,” he said on Thursday.

Thus, Dewa Indra hopes the local government through the cooperation with the Indonesian Army, Police, and customary village to approach the community who reject the quarantine sites and educate them about what this coronavirus is.

Dewa Indra also stressed that the virus does not spread through the air, but it is contagious through 1 or 2 meters of distance. For example through droplets or touching any media that has been touched by the infected.

“If there’s any chance the virus spreading through the air, our officials will be the first one who got infected. To date, none of our officials got infected, since they have applied the health protocol orderly. As long as the community applies the protocol, they will be not infected,” Dewa Indra said.

For these PMI who was quarantined by regencies/city government are those who have been tested negative. During the quarantine period, they will have another medical check through the swab test and PCR method.

If the test found any PMI infected with the coronavirus, they will be sent to quarantine sites under the Bali Government, for a more particular treatment.

“Don’t let the community use their logic to carry out the rejection. Imagine if all Balinese people reject the quarantine sites, then where should we bring all those migrant workers? They are still our responsibility,” Dewa Indra stated.

Previously, some quarantine site for migrant workers was rejected by the community. The latest case occurred in Karangasem Regency, on Wednesday.

The migrant workers were planned to be quarantined at a hotel, but the surrounding community decided to go against the idea and stopped the bus carrying the PMI.

The community’s objection was because there are many houses near the hotel, and the decision for the hotel uses as quarantine sites came in very short notice.

After negotiation with the government officials, the community decided to permit the hotel to be used as a quarantine site, but only for three days. After that, the government should find a new location that far from the residential area.
