Elizabeth International Hosts the Escoffier’s Young Chefs and Waiters Competition

DENPASAR, Bali (BPN) – Elizabeth International Hotel and Business School hosted an international-level of hospitality competition on Thursday, November 10, which was held by Escoffier Asia Pacific.

The competition, which was part of the Escoffier Week, was followed by 11 participants consisting of young chefs and young waiters under 25 years old from eight countries.

According to Putu Sri Budani as Director of Elizabeth International, this year’s event was followed by participants from Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, New Caledonia, Singapore, Tahiti, Thailand, and Vietnam. The winners will represent APAC at the World Final in Italy in 2023.

“It consists of a cuisine competition namely a cooking competition, service with table set competition, and wine and spirit tasting. The participants are under 25 years old. Eight participants compete in Hot Kitchen and pastry, and three in F&B Service,” she said on Thursday.

As for the assessment, Putu explained that there were eight judges from each participating country. “Judging is based on taste, presentation, garnish, and technique,” she said.

Elizabeth International, Putu continued, has been established since 2009 with three campuses, namely in Gianyar, Denpasar, and Nusa Dua, and currently, the number of students continues to increase and reaches 1000 students, although the number is still lower compared to the number before the pandemic.

“We prioritize soft skills, especially students’ character and attitude. Hard skills can be learned, but soft skills must really be instilled from the beginning. So they are not just good at work, but also understand how to meet and greet people. Here, they also get good leadership training,” she said.

Putu said that Elizabeth International is a hotel and business school, so students not only learn about hospitality but also learn to be entrepreneurs.

The campus even won the Indonesian Museum of Record (MURI) as the first entrepreneur-based vocational school in 2010.

“I hope the students are able to implement what we have taught here. Elizabeth International is not only a campus but also a house of transformation for those who want to become hospitality leaders,” she concluded.
