DENPASAR, Bali (BPN) – Pandemic Covid-19, climate change, and recent geopolitical conflicts have resulted in the threat of a global food and energy crisis. This multidimensional situation serves as the backdrop for the initiative to strengthen the G20 countries’ joint commitment to building sustainable agricultural systems and increasing food security.
Since its inception in Bali in 2017, Scholars of Sustenance Indonesia (SOS) has focused on reducing food waste and addressing food insecurity.
As a food rescue foundation, SOS hopes to assist the G20 in addressing global food security challenges.
Recently, SOS has been involved in G20 events by collecting and distributing edible surplus food from the SOE (State Own Enterprise) International Conference that is being held on Monday and Tuesday, October 17 – 18, 2022, at the Nusa Dua Convention Center in Bali.
The total amount of food collected was more than 100 kg, and it was all distributed to vulnerable communities affected by recent flooding including Banjar Batu Sangian village, Yeh Gangga, Sudimara village, and Gubuk village in Tabanan.
“The SOE International Conference: Driving Sustainable and Inclusive Growth” is a flagship event hosted by the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (MSOEs) of the Republic of Indonesia, where leaders from the government, SOEs, and the private sector share insights, best practices, and next steps on SOE transformation and roles in driving sustainable and inclusive growth.
The event is part of a series of Road to G20 activities in the Trade, Investment, and Industry Working Group (TIIWG). Eric Thohir (Minister of State Owned Enterprises of the Republic of Indonesia), Ma’Ruf Amin (Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia), Luhut Binsar Panjaitan (Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Investment Affairs), and Tony Blair (Former Prime Minister of Great Britain & Northern Ireland) are among the speakers at the event.
“And that’s only the beginning. We’ve already spoken with the event organizer and chef about future G20 gatherings and we are hoping for other collaboration as well to address the food security problem. We are delighted to be able to distribute food to the most vulnerable communities,” said Minni Vangsgaard, General Manager of Scholars of Sustenance Indonesia.
