UBUD, Bali (BPN) – On the night before Nyepi, Bali exuded a quieter yet profoundly meaningful energy. Nestled in a lush river valley, Bambu Indah hosted The Last Echoes, an international gathering bringing together approximately 200 guests from diverse countries, on Saturday (March 7).
The evening was designed as a reflective moment, honoring the transition from movement and expression to sacred silence.
Nyepi, marking the Saka New Year, is one of Bali’s most important spiritual traditions. For 24 hours, the island comes to a complete halt, no travel, no light, no entertainment, creating a collective space for introspection and renewal.
The Last Echoes took place the evening before this stillness, offering guests a chance to fully inhabit the final night before Bali embraced silence.
The event unfolded at Bambu Indah, a resort celebrated for its tranquil hospitality, nature-integrated design, and mature sustainability approach.
Founded by John and Cynthia Hardy, the property blends antique Javanese homes with innovative bamboo architecture and natural pools woven seamlessly into the river valley landscape.
Over the years, it has earned international recognition from BBC Travel, Condé Nast Traveler, Travel + Leisure, Tatler, Vogue, National Geographic, and Architectural Digest for its harmonious approach to design, culture, and sustainability.
Guests arrived from late afternoon, savoring the resort’s natural ambiance and facilities.
From the sauna, ice bath, copper hot tub, to natural spring pools, every element was curated to foster a calm, intimate experience.
Light culinary offerings and beverages were available throughout, while gentle ambient soundscapes supported quiet reflection and personal presence.
The evening continued with a series of musical performances. Opening acts featured Agustian, a multi-instrumentalist from Sumatra, weaving meditative soundscapes with traditional instruments and chants.
This was followed by a collaboration between Sophie Sofree and Raio, blending electronic textures with live instrumentation to create a collective rhythm, encouraging guests to be fully present.
The night concluded with Onanya, whose fusion of African and Middle Eastern influences guided guests through a deeply intimate musical journey.
As the climax, guests were guided to Bambu Indah’s Island area for a final fire ceremony led by Anna Maria, gently marking the transition to Nyepi.
The night’s peaceful atmosphere, music, and reflection created a meaningful experience connecting guests from around the world into a serene, shared community.
As the evening came to a close, guests departed Bambu Indah carrying the soft resonance of The Last Echoes, ready to enter the sacred silence that enveloped the entire island for Nyepi.
