The Agrotechnology Study Program at Universitas Mahasaraswati Denpasar Forges International Collaboration with National Ilan University, Taiwan, in Sibetan Village

KARANGASEM, Bali (BPN) – In 2003, the Karangasem Regency Government designated Sibetan Village as an Agrotourism destination, specifically focusing on salak (snake fruit).

Known for its cool climate and fresh air, Sibetan provides ideal conditions for cultivating salak trees, making it one of the premier destinations for Salak Agrotourism in Bali.

The salak fruit produced in Sibetan, famously known as “Salak Bali,” is celebrated for its unique taste, distinguishing it from similar fruits grown in other regions of Indonesia.

The village has become synonymous with high-quality salak, attracting tourists and fruit lovers from across the country and beyond.

To further enhance the development of salak cultivation in the area, the Agrotechnology Study Program of the Faculty of Agriculture and Business at Universitas Mahasaraswati Denpasar, in collaboration with National Ilan University, Taiwan, organized a community service event in Sibetan Village on August 30, 2024.

The event aimed to educate local farmers and residents on advanced Salak Cultivation Technology in Sibetan Village.

The program began with a formal signing of a partnership agreement between the Agrotechnology Study Program of Universitas Mahasaraswati Denpasar and National Ilan University, Taiwan.

Following the signing ceremony, the event continued with several educational sessions for the local community.

Topics covered included advanced salak cultivation techniques, post-harvest handling, off-season fruiting techniques, and potential export opportunities.

The community showed great enthusiasm for the program, particularly the new technologies in cultivation and post-harvest management presented by the guest speakers, Luh Putu Yuni Widyastuti, S.P., M.Si, from Universitas Mahasaraswati Denpasar, and Margo Sulistio, Ph.D., from National Ilan University, Taiwan.

One of the key highlights of the event was the session on off-season fruiting technology, which garnered much interest from the local farmers.

Ariniti, the manager of the “Agro Abian Salak” agrotourism site, expressed her appreciation for the training provided.

“The knowledge on off-season fruiting technology is crucial to ensure a sustainable supply of salak throughout the year,” she stated, highlighting the importance of continuous availability for maintaining market demand and exploring new export opportunities.
