DENPASAR, Bali (BPN) – A new festival called Renon Festival 2023 will be held in Denpasar from September to December. This festival is an effort to share knowledge and introduce the history, culture, and arts of Renon Village and its surroundings.
According to the Festival’s Committee Chairperson, Wayan Sukarsa, the first Renon Festival is also a celebration of Renon Traditional Village’s 500-year-old history.
“In addition, this festival will also provide a business platform for local Balinese MSMEs,” Wayan explained at a press conference on Thursday (9/14/2023).
Themed “Kanda Pat”, this festival aims to introduce the history of Renon to the younger generation. Apart from that, this festival is also to provide space and time for the youth to develop their creativity through this festival.
Event Director Radianto Pancara explained that the series of the festival is to start on 16–17 September with the Renon Kite Festival event at Padang Galak, Sanur.
In October, the E-Sport event will be held at the Wantilan Banjar (village hall) for three days, starting from 13 to 15 October 2023. Then, there will also be the Renon Motofest and Bali Goldfish Contest.
In November, there are Baleganjur (Balinese traditional musical) and decorated bike competitions for kids. The Cultural Parade will be held on Jalan Tukad Balian, while the peak event will take place on 23-25 December at Renon Field.
“We hope that this cultural event can be held continuously. We are starting it. Hopefully, it will be continued by the younger generation,” Radianto said.
Meanwhile, Bandesa (cultural head) of Renon Village, I Wayan Suarta, said that Renon as a village has a long history. Based on the story found in Blanjong Inscription, the people of Renon originate from the Blanjong area, Sanur Kauh, Denpasar. Because of the war, they moved to another land, which is now known as Renon.
