DENPASAR, Bali (BPN) – Bali recorded spikes in daily COVID-19 cases in the last few days, and on Wednesday there were 47 new confirmed cases. Secretary of the Bali COVID-19 Task Force Made Rentin said that several factors have caused the spikes.

First, the results of Contact Tracing in the last few days that have exceeded the ideal number.

“Normally, the Contact Tracing number is 1:4, means 1 confirmed patient, only infected 4 other people. But now it is 1:25, or 1 confirmed patient has infected 25 people,” Made Rentin said on Wednesday.

The second reason, he continued, is caused by travelers who conducted an independent COVID-19 check and resulted in positive.

“They are OTGs (asymptomatic virus carriers) and are dominated by travelers after taking independent swab tests. This means, the addition of confirmed cases today is dominated by new clusters of travelers who do the independent swab test, and the results of contact tracing,” he said.

For example, Rentin said, the case in Denpasar where the surveillance team conducted contact tracing after a merchant in Badung Traditional Market found positive from COVID-19. A swab test then directly conducted to people who were in direct contact with the confirmed patient. And most of them resulted in positive COVID-19.

The same case also occurred for travelers who conducted independent swab tests which mostly resulted in positive.

For this reason, Rentin asked the public to be aware of asymptomatic virus carriers by following the health protocols recommended by the government.
